Representative of the Russian Embassy in the UK visited British farms

On 9-10 November Mr. Vladimir Derbenskiy, agricultural attaché of the Russian Embassy visited farms in the Midlands (Shropshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire). Meetings with members of the House of Commons, Vice-President of the National Farmer Union (NFU) Adam Quinney and a number of British farmers took place. 

Mr. Quinney shared information on the NFU and methods used by British farmers to achieve the high result in the livestock production. Special focus was made on the new technologies used in the British agricultural industry.

Ushakov Medal presented to the Arctic Convoys Veterans

On 27 May Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Kenyon George Coulson MANSFIELD, Mr George Robert Victor WRIGHT, Mr Kenneth George NUNN, Mr George William ADAMS, Mr Douglas Fred ENGLAND, Mr George William WAKEFIELD and Mr Edward Cecil HARMAN, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

Historical plaque dedicated to Tsar Nicholas I unveiled in Scotland

On May 24 in Moffat a commemorative plaque to the Russian Emperor Nicholas I was inaugurated. It is installed in the same hotel where he stayed during the trip to Scotland 200 years ago - in 1816.

On 24 May Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Donald TAYLOR, Mr Terence Ronald BISHOP, Mr Alec Richard MCCREEDY, Mr Ronald Frederick BUCKINGHAM, Mr Trevor Edward FENNA and Mr Montague WALLEY, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

During the visit to Falkerk on 18 of May Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Andrey Pritsepov had a meeting with Provost P.Reid and local councilors C.Martin and E.Mahony. They discussed prospects of regional cooperation.

Pushkin Prize, established in 1986 by great granddaughter of Alexander Pushkin Lady Butter celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

Celebration of the Victory Day in the Northern Scotland

16 May 2016 the the wreaths were laid at the Arctic Convoys Memorial in Lyness, Isle of Hoy, on the shores of Scapa Flow where the Navy escort for the Convoys was being formed during the war. The memorial co-funded from Russia and Scotland was unveiled in 2009. The inscriptions on the memorial reads: “Dedicated to all those who served on the Arctic Convoys 1941-1945”.

Wreaths laid at the Arctic Convoys Memorial in Loch Ewe

On 14 May 2016 wreath laying ceremony was held at the Arctic Convoys Memorial in the Cove, Loch Ewe, on the occasion of the 71th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It was Loch Ewe where many vessels that would travel to and from the Soviet Union were stationed during the war.

On the Centenary of Russo-British Chamber of Commerce

On 16 May Russian Ambassador Dr. Alexander Yakovenko and RBCC Patron HRH Prince Michael of Kent took part in the annual Russo-British Chamber of Commerce (RBCC) Business Forum marking its 100 anniversary. Its participants also included high-level representatives of some major banks and companies, including Vneshekonombank, VTB Capital, Volga-Dnepr, BP, Rolls-Royce, TheCityUK, and others.
