Representative of the Russian Embassy in the UK visited British farms

On 9-10 November Mr. Vladimir Derbenskiy, agricultural attaché of the Russian Embassy visited farms in the Midlands (Shropshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire). Meetings with members of the House of Commons, Vice-President of the National Farmer Union (NFU) Adam Quinney and a number of British farmers took place. 

Mr. Quinney shared information on the NFU and methods used by British farmers to achieve the high result in the livestock production. Special focus was made on the new technologies used in the British agricultural industry.

On 27 August Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Leslie GARRETT, Mr Frederick Leopold SIMMS, Mr David Millmow CONNELY, Mr Ronald George THOMPSON, Mr Alan YOUNG and Mr James Douglas LIPSCOMBE, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

Ushakov Medal presented to the Arctic Convoys Veterans at the Russian Embassy

On 26 August Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor and Attaché of the Embassy Vadim Retuynskiy presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Thomas LEONARD and Mr Edward CLARK, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

Plaque to Joseph Brodsky unveiled in London

The first ever memorial sign in Britain honouring the Russian poet, Nobel laureate Joseph Brodsky (1940-1996) was unveiled in London on 25 August with support of the Russian Embassy. The metal plaque was put on the wall of the house in Hampstead Hill Gardens, 20, where the poet stayed while in London over several years. The distinguished scholar of Brodsky and President of the Russian Poets Fund Prof. Valentina Polukhina and a number of British poets and Brodsky's friends spoke at the event. The plaque was unveiled by Joseph Brodsky's daughter Anna Brodskaya-Sozzani.

On 20 August 2015 Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Andrey Pritsepov presented the son of the Arctic Convoys Veteran Mr Walter Hattle with the Ushakov medal that his father was awarded for his bravery and valour while on service at the Convoys during the war.
