Representative of the Russian Embassy in the UK visited British farms

On 9-10 November Mr. Vladimir Derbenskiy, agricultural attaché of the Russian Embassy visited farms in the Midlands (Shropshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire). Meetings with members of the House of Commons, Vice-President of the National Farmer Union (NFU) Adam Quinney and a number of British farmers took place. 

Mr. Quinney shared information on the NFU and methods used by British farmers to achieve the high result in the livestock production. Special focus was made on the new technologies used in the British agricultural industry. 



Ushakov Medals presented to 34 British veterans of the Arctic Convoys in Hastings

On 22 May at a ceremony in Hastings Counsellor Sergey Nalobin presented Ushakov Medals, as well as commemorative medals “70 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945” to 34 British veterans, who were awarded these honours for their personal courage and bravery displayed during their service in the Arctic Convoys in WWII.


On lecture of Russian cosmonaut Alexey Leonov at Science Museum in London

On 21 May 2015 the Russian cosmonaut Alexey Leonov, the first man in open space, held a lecture at the Science Museum in London. The event was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of his flight. During the lecture Mr.Leonov described his historical space mission in detail.


Plaque commemorating World War Two Soviet Pilots in Scotland unveiled in Errol

On 16 May 2015 at the Errol airfield, Perth and Kinross, the commemorative plaque dedicated to the secret mission of the Soviet pilots of the 1st Air Transportation Division who were stationed here in 1943-44 to receive the British Albemarle planes.


Exhibition about World War II Russian Airmen in Scotland opened in Montrose

On 15 May 2015 exhibition "The Russians in Scotland" was opened in Montrose. The exhibition casts light on one of the lesser known pages of the World War II – the secret mission of the Soviet pilots who brought British transport airplanes from Scotland to the USSR.


70th Anniversary of the Great Victory celebrated in the North of Scotland

On 11-12 May 2015 the Victory in the Great Patriotic War was celebrated in a series of events on Orkney.


Ceremony of commemorative stamp franking held at the Russian Embassy

On 14 May a ceremony of commemorative stamp franking held at the Russian Embassy in London. It involved putting a special postmark on two new Russian stamps, issued to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Victory in WW2 and the 175th anniversary of the first stamp of the world - the British Penny Black.


Dashi Namdakov’s sculpture She Guardian unveiled in London

On 11 May 2015 the ceremony of unveiling of a monumental sculpture She Guardian by acclaimed Russian artist, Dashi Namdakov took place at London’s Marble Arch. Ambassador Dr Alexander Yakovenko and Lord Mayor of Westminster Cllr Audrey Lewis presided over the event.


Wreaths laid at the Dundee International Submarine Memorial in Scotland on the Victory Day

On 9 May 2015 on occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Edinburgh Andrey Pritsepov and the Lord Provost of Dundee Robert Duncan laid wreaths at the International Submarine Memorial in Dundee. The memorial commemorates the lost crews of the Allied submarines based in Dundee during the World War II, including the crew of the Soviet submarine V-1 lost in 1944.


Russian Medals Presented to the Scottish Veterans of the Arctic Convoy on the Victory Day

On 9 May 2015 ‘The 70th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War’ Medals presentation ceremony was held in Glasgow. The medals, along with the personalised limited edition wristwatch, produced in Russia under the auspices of the Russian Military History Society, were presented to 51 Veterans of the Arctic Convoys who reside in Scotland.


70th anniversary of Victory in WW2 celebrated in London

On 9 May 2015 on the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, wreath laying ceremony took place at the Soviet War Memorial in the grounds of the Imperial War Museum in London. During the ceremony Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko presented to British veterans of the Arctic Convoys and Soviet veterans Russian jubilee medals.
