Representative of the Russian Embassy in the UK visited British farms

On 9-10 November Mr. Vladimir Derbenskiy, agricultural attaché of the Russian Embassy visited farms in the Midlands (Shropshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire). Meetings with members of the House of Commons, Vice-President of the National Farmer Union (NFU) Adam Quinney and a number of British farmers took place. 

Mr. Quinney shared information on the NFU and methods used by British farmers to achieve the high result in the livestock production. Special focus was made on the new technologies used in the British agricultural industry.

Gift of Life charity event at the Russian Embassy

On 5 March 2015 the Embassy hosted an evening of music and poetry to help the charitable Gift of Life Foundation. The event was themed around the great Russian poet Anna Akhmatova whose works were performed by the renowned Russian actress Dina Korzun and her British counterpart Jastine Waddell.

Ushakov Medals presented to 11 British veterans of the Arctic Convoys in Walsall

On 27 February Naval Attaché Captain Oleg Kornienko and Assistant to the Naval Attaché Commander Igor Elkin presented the Ushakov Medal to 11 British veterans of the Arctic Convoys at a ceremony in Lancaster.

Ushakov Medals presented to British veterans of the Arctic Convoys in Walsall

On 25 February Third Secretary of the Russian Embassy Sergey Fedichkin, Third Secretary of the Russian Embassy Sergey Belyakov and Assistant Air Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Sergey Savunov presented Ushakov Medals to 17 British veterans of the Arctic Convoys at a ceremony in Walsall.

Defender of Motherland Day reception at the Russian Embassy in London

On 24 February 2015 the Russian Embassy in London held a reception on the occasion of the national holiday – Defender of Motherland Day. Among the numerous guests were diplomats and defence attaches stationed in London, Arctic Convoys veterans, members of the Russian community.

Ushakov Medal presented to four British veterans of the Arctic Convoys

On 20 February 2015 Attaché of the Russian Embassy Mrs Elizaveta Vokorina presented the Ushakov Medal to four British veterans of the Arctic Convoys – Mr Robert BARNES, Raymond Percy GREEN, David Edward COTTRELL, Royston Frederick FIELDER, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed during the service in the Arctic Convoys in WWII.

Ushakov Medal presented to 14 British veterans of the Arctic Convoys

On 5-6 February 2015, Assistant to the Naval Attaché Commander Igor Elkin and Attaché of the Russian Embassy Mrs Elizaveta Vokorina visited the Isle of Wight to present the Ushakov Medal to fourteen British veterans of the Arctic Convoys, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed during the service in the Arctic Convoys in WWII.

Ushakov Medal presented to six British veterans of the Arctic Convoys

On 28 January 2015 Attaché of the Russian Embassy Elizaveta Vokorina presented the Ushakov Medal to three British veterans of the Arctic Convoys – Mr Dennis Nigel Ashworth MCDONALD, Mr William James HARVEY and Mr Stuart Alan Stanbridge HUFFER, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed during the service in the Arctic Convoys in WWII.

Holocaust Remembrance Day marked in London

On 27 January 2015 a ceremony at the Soviet War Memorial near the Imperial War Museum marked the International Holocaust Remembrance Day – 70th anniversary of liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp by the Red Army. The event was attended by local authorities, representatives of Embassies of CIS countries and WW2 veterans, NGO’s and media. Read Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko’s speech.

On participation of Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Veniamin Kaganov in the Education World Forum

On January 18-20, the Ministerial Education World Forum-2015 was held in London. Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Professor Veniamin Kaganov, took part in the EWF. Various issues of accelerating the quality of teaching as well as balanced use of modern technologies in the educational process were discussed at the EWF.
