Ushakov Medal presented to British veteran of the Arctic Convoys

On 20 November Third Secretary of the Russian Embassy Sergey Belyakov presented the Ushakov Medal to Mr Francis Vincent Melbourne, who was awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of 10 March 2014 for his personal courage and bravery displayed during their service in the Arctic Convoys in WWII.

On 20 November ceremony of Ushakov medal awarding took place at the Russian Embassy. On behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin Ambassador of Russia to UK Alexander Yakovenko solemnly presented Ushakov medals to 46 veterans of the Arctic convoys (prize list attached).


“Future Culture” conference successfully concludes in London

On 17 November 2014, the “Future Culture - Expanding role of technology in cultural production, experience, and exchange” took place in Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It is one of the closing events of the Russia-UK Year of Culture and was jointly organized by the V&A in collaboration with the Embassy of Russia in the UK and “Calvert 22” foundation.

On 17 November Counsellor of the Russian Embassy Mr.Sergey Nalobin presented Ushakov Medals to 25 British veterans of the Arctic Convoys at a ceremony in Plymouth.


Counsellor of the Russian Embassy Ernest Chernukhin presented «Global Education» Programme

On 14 November 2014, representative of the Russian Embassy in London, Counsellor Ernest Chernukhin, conducted a presentation of the «Global Education» Programme to the Russian students in the UK. Representatives of UCL, LSE, Imperial College, Kings College and other institutions took part in the meeting that was held at the Rossotrudnichestvo office.


Ushakov Medals presented to British veterans of the Arctic Convoys

On 10 November Minister-Counsellor of the Russian Embassy Alexander Kramarenko presented Ushakov Medals to 31 British veterans of the Arctic Convoys at a ceremony in Truro. Participants were warmly welcomed by Chairman of Cornwall Council Mr John Wood and Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Colonel Edward Bolitho. Speaking on behalf of the Russian Government, Minister-Counsellor thanked the veterans of the Arctic Convoys for their invaluable contribution to the defeat of Nazi Germany.


Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko meets with delegation of the city of Volgograd

On 11 November 2014 Ambassador of Russia to the UK Alexander Yakovenko met with the delegation from Volgograd, headed by the city mayor А.V. Kosolapov. The delegation’s visit in UK is aimed at developing sister city relations between Volgograd and Coventry. Prospects of cooperation between twin cities in the spheres of culture, education and sport were discussed during the meeting.


Remembrance Day at Soviet War Memorial

On 9 November 2014, Remembrance Day was marked at the Soviet War Memorial on the grounds of the Imperial War Museum in the London district of Southwark. Wreaths were laid by Ambassador of Russia Alexander Yakovenko, Second World War veterans, diplomats from CIS countries, representatives of the Parliament and the local authorities, NGOs, members of public.


Remembrance Sunday at Oxford War Memorial

On 9 November a traditional ceremony of wreath laying took place at the War Memorial in Oxford.


On Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko’s visit to Northern Ireland

On 30-31 October, Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko visited Northern Ireland. During the visit the Ambassador met with the Lord Mayor of Belfast Nichola Mallon, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment of Northern Ireland Arlene Foster, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Northern Ireland Duchess of Abercorn and presented Ushakov Medals to the British veterans of the Arctic convoys from Northern Ireland.
