Embassy visit to Birmingham

On 28 April diplomats of the Russian Embassy visited Birmingham, presenting "Illuminated chronicles of Ivan the Terrible" to the University of Birmingham Library, which received books with gratitude. Counsellor of the Russian Embassy Konstantin Shlykov presented Ushakov Medals and "70th anniversary of the Victory" medals for the Arctic Convoys veterans of Birmingham and surrounding areas. Lord Mayor Raymond Hassall, host of the event, made a welcoming speech. The event was attended by representatives of local Russian community associations Elena Denezhkina and Nadezhda Loginova, awarded with special Letters of Recognition of Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko.

On 27 April 2016 Russian Ambassador Dr Alexander Yakovenko visited the grand opening of the new “The Empress and the Gardener” exhibition at Hampton Court Palace produced in partnership with the State Hermitage Museum.

Consul General attends children’s workshop

Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Andrey A.Pritsepov attended on 15 of April a creative workshop for children which was a part of the preparations for an exhibition of the Russian artist Dina Mackins, which will be opened at St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh on 1 of June – the World Children’s Day.

Ushakov Medal presented to the Arctic Convoys Veterans

On 21 April Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr D.A.NODING, Mr D.GRAY, Mr F.DYTOR, Mr E.G.YATES, Mr I.J.MILTON and Mr J.S.EYRE, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

On 19 April Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr W.J.STOKES, Mr J.WHITEHOUSE, Mr J.F.ERICKSON, Mr F.E.HARRISON, Mr A.E.HOPKINS and Mr R.T.JEAVONS, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

Lecture in Honour of Alexander Lazarev in the University of Glasgow

During a visit to Glasgow on 13 April 2016 Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Andrey A.Pritsepov addressed opening remarks to the audience of the annual Lecture in Honour of Alexander Lazarev, Conductor Emeritus of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra by Dr.Stuart Campbell – «Why we need Soviet Music? Reflections on Shostakovich and Other Matters». The event is dedicated to the coming celebrations to be held in 2017 to mark 100 years of the Russian Language Studies at the University of Glasgow.

On 13 April 2016 Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh took part in the opening of the exhibition «Shakespeare on the Russian Stage: Hamlet and a 100 years of Shakespearean Productions» at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire, Glasgow.
