Damage inflicted to the Russian Embassy in London as a result of 16/17 August attack

In the night 16/17 August 2012 the consular section of the Russian Embassy in London was attacked by a mob chanting slogans against the Syrian government and throwing stones towards the building. Several windows were broken, there has been a significant damage to the house. Fortunately none of the Embassy staff were injured.

On 30 April 2015 “The 70th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War” Medals were presented to the Scottish Veterans of the Arctic Convoys at the special ceremony at the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Edinburgh.

Ushakov Medals Presented to the Families of the Arctic Convoys Veterans

On 29 April 2015 a ceremony took place in Edinburgh where the Ushakov Medals were presented to the families of the Arctic Convoys veterans who were awarded it for their personal courage and valour shown during the World War II while participating in the Arctic Convoys, but didn’t live to receive it.

Presentation of Ushakov Medal to the Veteran of the Arctic Convoys William Weir

On 30 April 2015 Ushakov Medal was presented to the veteran of the Arctic Convoys Mr William Weir by the Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Andrey Pritsepov ‘for personal courage and valour shown during the World War II while participating in the Arctic Convoys'. The ceremony took place in Dalgety Bay, Fife.

The Pushkin Prizes Presented to Young Russian and Scottish Writers in Edinburgh

On 27 April 2015 The Pushkin Prizes presentation ceremony was held in Edinburgh. Twelve young talented writers, including Ksenia Lavrenova and Daria Pitolenko from St Petersburg, were celebrated for their award-winning prose and poetry submitted to the annual competition for Scottish and Russian secondary school students.

Shakespeare Birthday celebrations in Stratford-upon-Avon

On 25-26 April 2015 Stratford-upon-Avon hosted the traditional Shakespeare Birthday celebrations. The Russian Embassy was represented by Counsellor Konstantin Shlykov, Head of the Embassy's Press service.

Ushakov Medals presented to 62 British veterans of the Arctic Convoys in Oxford

On 23 April at a ceremony in Oxford Minister-Counsellor Alexander Kramarenko presented Ushakov Medals, as well as commemorative medals “70 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945” to 62 Britons, who were awarded these honours for their personal courage and bravery displayed during their service in the Arctic Convoys in WWII. Participants of the ceremony, which took place at Oxford Town Hall, were warmly welcomed by Lord Mayor of Oxford Councillor Mohammed Abbasi and Chairman of Oxfordshire County Council Councillor Anne Purse.

Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko conferred Diplomat of the Year award

On 20 April the annual Diplomat Awards ceremony was held in London, at which Russian Ambassador Dr Alexander Yakovenko was conferred the Eurasian Diplomat of the Year prize. On behalf of the Ambassador Counsellor Ivan Volodin received the award.

Ushakov Medals presented to three British veterans of the Arctic Convoys

On 17 April Attaché of the Russian Embassy Elizaveta Vokorina presented the Ushakov Medals to three Britons – Mr Leslie ATKINSON, Mr Stanley HARRISON and Mr Douglas EYRES, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed during the service in the Arctic Convoys in WWII.

Ushakov medals presented to 31 British veterans of the Arctic Convoys

On 20 April Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko presented the Ushakov medals, as well as commemorative medals “70 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945” to thirty-one British veterans of the Arctic convoys at a ceremony in his residence.

Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh visits Northern Scotland

On 8-10 April 2014 Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Mr Andrey Pritsepov visited the Highlands. The Consul General met representatives of the local authorities and the members of the Highland Council, as well as visited local businesses, including fish farm of ‘Scottish Salmon Company’ on the Isle of Skye. Among the most notable events was the ceremony of presenting Ushakov Medal to the veteran of Arctic Convoys Mr Norman MacLeod in Portree.
