Ambassador Yakovenko took part in the grand opening of “Scythians” exhibition at the British Museum

On 12 September Ambassador Dr Alexander Yakovenko took part in the grand opening of the exhibition "Scythians: warriors of Ancient Siberia" at the British Museum. The exhibition, presenting to the British public the cultural heritage of the ancient people who lived in Eurasia from the Black Sea to Siberia and Central Asia for the first time in 40 years, is the result of the cooperation of the British Museum with the State Hermitage (St. Petersburg). A number of exhibits were also provided by other museums from Britain and Kazakhstan.

The sponsor of the exhibition is oil company BP. The event was attended by the Director of the British Museum Hartwig Fischer and Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky.

Over 200 objects in this exhibition are on loan from the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, many of them have never been exhibited outside Russia.



Students of Russian school "Znaniye" presented exams certificates at the Russian Embassy

On 13 November 2017 the Embassy hosted the presentation of A-levels exams certificates to the students of the educational centre Znaniye (Knowledge). The Embassy donated a set of books in Russian to the students.


Remembrance Sunday at Soviet War Memorial

On 12 November 2017 a traditional ceremony of wreath laying took place at the Soviet War Memorial in London, near the Imperial War Museum.

On 19 - 20 October 2017 the Agricultural Attaché of the Russian Embassy Vladimir Derbenskiy visited five agricultural farms in county Devon.


Poetry festival Pushkin in Britain launched at the Embassy

On 20 October 2017 the traditional Russian poetry and culture festival "Pushkin in Britain" was launched at the Russian Embassy in London. The Embassy reception included a poetry slam. Evening with Professor Valentina Polukhina: Joseph Brodsky and his heritage

On 13 October Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko took part in the event dedicated to the Russian poet Joseph Brodsky, whose prominent scholar Professor Valentina Polukhina has donated her archive of Brodsky papers to the museum of the poet in his native St Petersburg. The evening was hosted by the Russian cultural centre Rossotrudnichestvo and featured talks by Prof. Polukhina, Director of the Museum Mikhail Milchik, deputy editor of Rossiyskaya Gazeta Yury Lepsky, museum volunteer poet Arina Bedrina and the film about Brodsky "A cat and a half".


Embassy hosts presentation of online platform “InArt”

On 3 October the Embassy hosted a reception and presentation of the analytical online platform “InArt” (https://in-art.ru/en/) by the founder Ms Ksenia Podoynitsyna.


Reception to celebrate 125 years of Shell in Russia

On 3 October the Embassy hosted a reception to celebrate 125 years of Shell in Russia and launch a book about this anniversary. “Shell” is onе of the most well-known and important companies in Russian oil and gas sector.


Memorable gifts presented to Scottish Veterans of Arctic Convoys

On 28th September 2017, the Russian Consul General in Edinburgh Mr Andrey A.Pritsepov visited two WWII Veteranы who took part in the Arctic Convoys, Mr Ernest Robertson and Mr William Robertson Mckay. They both received a set of memorable gifts created on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the first Arctic Convoy calling Archangelsk.
