08.04.2018 - Comment on the British investigation of the death of Mr Nikolay Glushkov

The Embassy has just received a Foreign Office Note Verbale regarding the death of the Russian citizen Mr Nikolay Glushkov in London on 12 March 2018. The Embassy appreciates the response, however the Note contains no information other than referring us to the Metropolitan Police in case we have any questions.

Russian Embassy in London Опубликовано Яковом Смирновым · 3 ч · On Saturday evening the Embassy received a Note Verbale from the Foreign Office, in which it informed that Ms Viktoria Skripal had applied for visa at the British Embassy in Moscow and had been informed of the outcome. It seems that this Note is a formality and does not answer the questions posed by our Embassy.

Q: How do you assess the current state of cooperation between the Embassy and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office regarding the poisoning in Salisbury? A: Unfortunately, the current state of the Foreign Office interaction with the Embassy is utterly unsatisfactory. We believe that it is high time to arrange a meeting between Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson in order to discuss the whole range of bilateral issues, as well as the investigation of the Salisbury incident. Ambassador Yakovenko has already sent a respective personal note to the Foreign Secretary.

Mr. President, On 14 March, 2018, the Security Council followed up on a letter from Prime Minister of United Kingdom Teresa May by an open meeting. The letter brought heinous and totally unsubstantiated accusations against Russia of using chemical weapons on the UK soil. UK representatives promised at that meeting to regularly brief the Council on the course of the investigation. However, no briefings came from their side. Well, in this case we will brief you in detail ourselves. It has been a month since Russian citizens Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious in the British town of Salisbury.

We welcome the news of progress in Sergei Skripal’s recovery. We are grateful to the medical staff treating him and his daughter Yulia and wish them to get well soon. We hope that the improvement of Sergei and Yulia Skripal’s health will contribute to the investigation of the crime perpetrated against them. We are confident that an objective probe will ultimately establish that the claims against Russia by UK Government are null and void.
