Question: The discussion about the possibility of using force against Syria raises the issue of international lawagain acutely. Let’s talk about it. Do you agree that this is a strange right – there are obligations, but almost no sanctions for their violation. Am I right? Sergey Lavrov: International law has, in fact, no enforcement and punishment system, which are characteristic for the national law of countries. However, this principle is organically derived from the principle of the sovereign equality of states. States are equal in their rights, and therefore their consent is required to create any control or enforcement mechanism in respect of actions they carry out.
