Press release on the Foreign Ministry reception to mark Orthodox Easter

On April 18, a reception was held at the Reception House of the Russian Foreign Ministry on behalf of Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the occasion of Orthodox Easter. Attending were Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Russian Orthodox Church hierarchs, representatives of traditional faiths, Russian state officials, public figures, and diplomats.

The minister delivered Easter greetings to Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and all the guests, and praised cooperation between the Foreign Ministry and the Russian Orthodox Church in strengthening the moral foundations of international relations, maintaining accord between nations and resisting the appearance of new dividing lines on inter-civilisational and inter-faith grounds.

In his speech, Mr Lavrov touched upon the most pressing issues on the international agenda, including discrimination against Christians in the Middle East and North African countries and in other parts of the world, as well as the situation in Ukraine and the fight against terrorism.

On October 10, a regular meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers will be held in Sochi within the framework of Russia’s CIS Chairmanship in 2017. The agenda is comprised of 18 topics covering a broad range of issues related to CIS cooperation. The CIS foreign ministers will discuss practical measures for promoting multilateral cooperation between the CIS countries and will exchange opinions on current international issues. The documents they will adopt following this meeting will be forwarded to the CIS Council of Heads of State.
