Comment by the Information and Press Department on a terrorist act in BaghdadMore than 60 people were killed and some 200 wounded as a result of a truck bomb explosion at a crowded market in northeastern Baghdad on August 13. There are children among the dead and the wounded. The “Islamic State” group has claimed responsibility for the terrorist act.
Moscow resolutely condemns this inhuman attack by extremists. We express our sincere condolences to the families of the dead and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
This act shows once again that terrorists will pursue their criminal goals through barbarous methods. Their main purpose is to sow fear and suffering among civilians.
Russia is consistently supporting the anti-terror efforts of the Iraqi authorities, rendering them practical assistance. We are convinced that the broadest possible coordination of regional and global players is necessary to effectively fight such a universal evil as terrorism.
