Photo Exhibition «Portrait of Pskov – 25 years of Friendship» opens in Perth

On 12 April 2016 Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh together with Provost of Pert and Kinross Liz Grant took part in the opening of the Photo Exhibiton «Portrait of Pskov – 25 years of Friendship» in the ancient Scottish city of Perth dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of Twinning between Perth and Pskov.

Ushakov Medal presented to the Arctic Convoys Veterans

On 14 April Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Frederic TURNER, Mr Leslie Raymond THACKER, Mr James BREEN and Mr Derek John WEBSTER, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

Ushakov Medals presented to British veteran of the Arctic Convoys at the Russian Embassy

On 12 of April British veteran of the Arctic Convoys Mr John Albert FRANKLIN was presented the Ushakov Medals by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for his personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII by Attache of the Russian Embassy Mr Oleg Shor.

Reception at the Russian Embassy to celebrate the opening of London book fair

On 12 April 2016 a reception was held at the Russian Embassy in London to celebrate the opening of the London book fair. Among the guests were Russian Minister of culture Vladimir Medinsky, Head of Press and Communications (Rospechat) Agency Mikhail Seslavinsky, various celebrities. Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko awarded several of the guests with letters of recognition. After the event the troupe of London Free open-air theater played a scene from Dostoyevsky's immortal novel “Crime and Punishment”.

Russian and UK Ministers of culture meet at London Book Fair

On 12 April 2016 Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky was in London on his working visit and took part in the London Book Fair. On the margins of the event he held a meeting with Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport of the UK the Rt Hon John Whittingdale.

Ambassador Yakovenko meets Executive Director of the International Sugar Organization (ISO) His Excellency Mr Jose Orive

On 12 April 2016 Russian Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko met Executive Director of the International Sugar Organization (ISO) His Excellency Mr Jose Orive. Mr J.Orive briefed the Ambassador about situation in the world sugar industry and in the ISO. The issues related to the development of cooperation between Russia and ISO were discussed.

Ambassador Yakovenko meets Executive Director of the International Grain Council

On 11 April 2016 Russian Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko met Executive Director of the International Grain Council (IGC) His Excellency Mr Etsuo Kitahara. Mr Kitahara informed the Ambassador about situation in the world grain market and in the IGC. The issues related to the development of cooperation between Russia and IGC were discussed.

Russian schools – in the finals of British English Olympics

On 9 April the award ceremony of the British English Olympics in the UK was held in Excel Arena. More than 110 schools took part in the ceremony, including two Russian schools (Nalchik School number 2 and Venda). The ceremony was attended by representative of the Russian Embassy in the UK.

Centenary of Anglo-Russian hospital celebrated in London

On 7 April the centenary of Anglo-Russian hospital in Petrograd (St Petersburg) was celebrated in the Royal College of Nursing in London. The hospital worked during WWI, funded by British philanthropists (the Royal family among them). More than 6000 Russian soldiers received 1916 – 1918 treatment in this hospital, which became one of the symbols of alliance between our countries in the First World War. Many descendants of the hospital service staff were invited to the ceremony, including Mr John Whittingdale, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. Mr Whittingdale noted in his speech that the glorious pages of our common history should be always remembered, that the humanitarian ties between peoples of Russia and Great Britain must be maintained. A representative of the Embassy attended. In February, centenary celebrations were held in St. Petersburg.
