Ushakov medals presented to British veterans of the Arctic Convoys in Coventry

On 14 November Minister-Counsellor of the Russian Embassy Mr Alexander Kramarenko, Counsellor of the Russian Embassy Mr Alexander Udod, Attaché of the Russian Embassy Mrs Elizaveta Vokorina, Attaché of the Russian Embassy Mr Oleg Shor, Attaché of the Russian Embassy Elena Gorshkova and Assistant Naval Attaché Commander Dmitry Sharapov presented the Ushakov medals to British veterans of the Arctic Convoys at a ceremony in Coventry.

On 12 November Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Kenneth Alfred STEVENS, Mr John Wilfred Harper Fullerton DICKIE, Mr Malcolm Stuart BEESTON, Mr Norman William COSFORD, Mr Anthony Clifford PARSONS and Mr Arthur John BLASDALE, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

Students of Russian school "Znaniye" presented exams certificates at the Russian Embassy

On 12 November the Embassy hosted the presentation of Russian language exams certificates to the students of the educational centre Znaniye (Knowledge). In 2015, a total of 24 Znaniye students passed GCSE exams, 28 took AS exams and 22 took A2 exams. The results of their A-levels tests have helped them to enter Britain's best universities.

On 11 November Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Roderic Robert RAYMOND, Mr Greville Adrian CAVENDISH, Mr Ivor Noel THOMAS, Mr William Walter KENNY, Mr James William SUNLEY and Mr Gordon Champness SMART, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

Remembrance Sunday at Soviet War Memorial

On 8 November 2015 a traditional ceremony of wreath laying took place at the Soviet War Memorial in London, near the Imperial War Museum. The solemn act was attended by the Mayor of Southwark, representatives of the UK Parliament and borough council, Embassies of Russia and other nations, British veterans of the Arctic convoys and non-government organizations.

On 6 of November October the British veterans of the Arctic Convoys Mr Matthew Swinburn USHER, Mr Kenneth MEDWELL and Mr John William ROBERTS were presented the Ushakov Medals for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII by Attaché of the Russian Embassy Mr. Vadim Retyunskiy.

On expressions of condolences

On 4th November the UK Foreign Secretary The Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP and the Secretary of State for Transport, The Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin MP visited the Embassy to leave a message in the book of condolences opened in connection with the crash of flight 7K9268 over Egypt. In the past few days hundreds of Britons and Russian compatriots came to sent their condolences to the e-book on our website. People brought flowers, candles and toys to Embassy buildings.

Press release on reception at the Embassy to mark the opening “World Travel Market-2015”

On 2 November the Russian Embassy hosted a reception to mark the opening of the “World Travel Market-2015”, where representatives of various Russian regions (such as Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Tatarstan) participate. In his opening word Mr Ambassador Yakovenko stressed the importance of developing tourism and traveling business for Russian economy and the enormous potential it possesses.
