A number of Ambassadors, FCO officials, representatives of diplomatic corps and media attended. Following the tradition, members of Embassy staff laid flowers to the graves of Russian Chargés d’Affaires buried in London – Fr. Iakov (James) Smirnove and Evgeny Sablin. A prayer for the souls of past Russian Ambassadors to London was read at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral at Ennismore Gardens.
The Russian cultural centre at 37 High Street Kensington has launched an exhibition of documents and photos exploring the Second Hague Conference of 1907. The conference, convened by Russia, adopted the Hague Conventions which were among the first formal statements of the laws of war and war crimes in the body of secular international law. The exhibition runs until 22 February.
