31.05.2011 - Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov Meets with British and French Ambassadors to Moscow

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Gennady Gatilov met on May 30 with Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Anne Pringle and Ambassador of the French Republic Jean de Gliniasty. During their conversation the parties discussed several topical issues in international relations, including problems related to UNSCR 1267 concerning the observance of the sanctions regime against Al-Qaida and the Taliban.


29.05.2011 - Dmitry Medvedev met with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Cameron on the sidelines of the G8 Summit

Mr Medvedev and Mr Cameron discussed the British Prime Minister’s upcoming official visit to Russia in September, economic cooperation, and the international agenda, in particular, the situation in Libya and the Middle East. The two leaders also examined one of the issues on the G8 summit’s agenda concerning internet development and how to protect copyright in the internet.

An exchange of views took place on topical international issues, including the situations in Afghanistan, North Africa and the Middle East.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Cameron has sent his congratulations to the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Russian bid committee on the occasion of Russia winning the right to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup and wished Russia success in preparations for the tournament.

On 17 November Chargé d’Affaires of the Russian Federation in the United Kingdom Mr Alexander Sternik met the new Chair and several members of the All-Party Parliamentary Russia Group (APRG) at the Palace of Westminster. The meeting participants exchanged views on the state and prospects of Russian-British relations as well as the working contacts between the Embassy of Russia in London and the APRG. The sides reached an understanding that engaging in a regular and frank dialogue would help to promote mutually beneficial co-operation between the two countries, a tendency that has been set in motion by meetings between the countries’ leaders and ministers in the last six months.

Dmitry Medvedev and David Cameron discussed various aspects of bilateral relations, as well as the situation in Iran and North Korea and other regional issues. The two parties stressed the importance of coordinating joint efforts to address international security challenges. Dmitry Medvedev invited David Cameron to make a visit to Russia next year.
