13.05.2010 - Dmitry Medvedev had a telephone conversation with former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Gordon Brown.

The President of Russia expressed his best wishes to Gordon Brown and conveyed his appreciation for their constructive personal contacts in the last several years. Mr. Brown warmly thanked Mr Medvedev for his wishes and high assessment of the bilateral cooperation.


08.05.2010 - Statement of the G8 leaders

May 8th and 9th mark the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe and the victory over Nazism. We, the G8 leaders, together with the citizens of our countries, mourn all who died in that war and honour those who fought to end it. On these days of remembrance and reconciliation we pay special tribute to all those who endured occupation and the horrors of the Holocaust. Also our thoughts are with those who suffered from the division of Europe that followed.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Alexei Borodavkin, received on March 23 the UK Foreign Office Political Director, Geoffrey Adams, at his request. The parties exchanged views on the developments in the politico-military situation in and around the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (IRA), and in this context acknowledged the importance of building up coordinated efforts by the international community to counter the Afghan threat of drugs and to support the relevant measures of the IRA government.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Ryabkov, met in Moscow the UK Foreign Office Political Director, Geoffrey Adams, on March 23. They discussed certain topical themes of the international agenda, nonproliferation and disarmament issues, including the situation surrounding Iran’s nuclear program, and matters relating to the cooperation within the G8.


23.03.2010 - Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs/State Secretary Grigory Karasin Meets with UK Foreign Office Political Director Geoffrey Adams

A meeting took place in Moscow on March 23 between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and State Secretary of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin and UK Foreign Office Political Director Geoffrey Adams. During the conversation a number of topical issues of the international agenda were discussed, among them CIS problems, including Russian and British relations with the Commonwealth countries. Special attention was devoted to the developments in Ukraine and to the situation in the South Caucasus.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Alexander Grushko, received on February 16 Britain’s Minister of State for Europe, Chris Bryant. During the course of the conversation topical problems of the reformation of the European security architecture, including Russian President Medvedev’s initiative to craft and conclude a European Security Treaty, were discussed along with issues in Russia-EU relations and the activities of the Russia-NATO Council. Considerable attention was paid to the state of affairs in the OSCE.


04.12.2009 - Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov Meets with UK Secretary for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Miliband

On December 4, a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and UK Secretary for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Miliband took place in Brussels on the sidelines of the ministerial session of the Russia-NATO Council. During the conversation the sides exchanged views on a number of key themes on the international agenda, including the Middle East peace process and the situation in Afghanistan, as well as on certain issues in Russian-British relations.

During the conversation some topical issues of international relations, particularly those concerning the upcoming 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen, were discussed.

On November 20, State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin met in London with Chris Bryant, Minister of State for Europe at the UK Foreign Office. Russia’s line on integration and the development of good-neighborly relations with the states of the post-Soviet space was explained to the British side.

On November 20, a meeting between State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin, and members of the Coordination Council elected at the Third Russian Compatriots Forum in Britain and Diaspora activists engaged in the realization of cultural, educational, sporting and other projects that contribute to strengthening the position of the Russian language and culture and to a better perception of Russia, took place at the Russian Embassy in London.
